After visiting tanning beds as a young adult, I was diagnosed with melanoma on my “tush”, the kind of cancer that can kill.  My dermatologist, Dr. Shawn Sabin, discovered my dark, irregular-shaped mole, just in time.  Luckily, I only needed surgery.

Together, we want to spread the message that no matter what your skin type or color, “everyone” is prone to skin cancer, but it is preventable.  It is as easy as visiting your dermatologist once a
year for a complete skin check, wear 30 SPF sunscreen everyday
and protect yourself from the sun. 

Dr. Sabin is finding with her patients of all ages that there is  pressure to be tan. Many women of all ages are visiting tanning beds and exposing themselves to the sun to tan, leaving them at an increased risk of skin cancer of all types and aging of the skin. We want to give all women the “permission” to be their natural color.
